Wolvercote

The village of Wolvercote - roughly 10 miles from Bicester - was recorded in the Domesday Book as 'Ulfgarcote'. Another early spelling was 'Woolgarcote' ('Ulfgar/Woolgar's cottages'). By 1185, its current spelling was in use.

Whilst it began as a small, relatively isolated Saxon settlement, it is now essentially a suburb of the city of Oxford.
